We’re Popping Off About Tybee Island

Tybee Island FireworksThese days it seems like everyone has something to say and we certainly always do.  We want to make sure you make plans now to help celebrate America’s Independence Day, so we’re popping off about Tybee Island!

Our 4th of July celebration is so hot we have to start it off a day early.  On July 3rd, join us for Tybee’s annual celebration of America’s birthday. Come early and plan to stay late as this is one of Tybee’s busiest days of the year and the island fills up fast. Of course, everything around here runs on Tybee Time, so the show starts around dark thirty (around 9:15pm). The fireworks are staged on the pier, but they are easily viewed from any of Tybee’s eastern beaches.

Tybee Island sunset

But wait, there’s more.  When we get to popping off we go all out.  July 4th-7th it’s the Tybee Arts Association Show and Sale.  The Cafeteria at the YMCA (5th St. and Butler Ave) is where it takes place.  There’ll be local art that includes paintings, driftwood sculpture, fiber arts, stained glass, prints, jewelry, photography, art quilts, glass art, pottery, handcrafted furniture, and much more. This is where you get the really good stuff so hit it on Friday 6-9 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Seashell Suite

Make this a real celebration with a long weekend stay in one of our historic suites.  You might choose Seashell.  The Seashell is upstairs on the second floor and offers beautiful seashell bedding with neutral earth tones and watery turquoise.

Seashell Suite

Celebrate your getaway in this Queen-size iron bed, accented by Seashell’s pale yellow walls. This room features a (decorative/non-working) fireplace with the original insert and tile surround, a beautiful armoire and a ceiling fan, as well as a flat screen TV. Amenities of this room also include an en suite full bathroom with ceramic tile and dual sinks and medicine cabinets.  This is a perfectly beachy and relaxing guest room!

Surf Song Interior

Surf Song Bed & Breakfast is all set to celebrate American’s Independence Day and we’re always ready to welcome you.  We’re popping off about Tybee Island and once you’ve been here you will, too.

Gary Sinise FoundationRun, Forrest, run.  Grab Susie, Joe, Sally and Frank and just keep running.  Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band will be in concert at 5 p.m. on April 6th at Donovan Field on Fort Stewart.   The event is presented by the USO in partnership with the Gary Sinise Foundation. There is no admission charge. Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band

The Lt. Dan Band is a cover band founded by Kimo Williams and Gary Sinise who have worked together since a Steppenwolf production of A Streetcar Named Desire. The band is named after the character Lieutenant Dan Taylor, whom Sinise portrayed in the film Forrest Gump. Sinise has said in interviews that many people know him by sight as “Lieutenant Dan” rather than by his real name, hence the band’s name. The concept came about when Sinise requested for permission to bring musicians along during his USO tours. The group was initially known as “Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band”.

Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band

The Lt. Dan Band has grown from the occasional jam session and Chicago-area gigs to performing for charities and non-profit organizations including the USO and Operation Iraqi Children, the latter of which was co-founded by Sinise in March 2004. They frequently visit military bases in the United States and abroad.

Gary Sinise Foundation

Sinise is a passionate supporter of troops and is now involved in building a memorial to America’s three million living disabled military veterans, at whose opening the band is expected to play. So, run, Forrest, run and come on down to see Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band.  It’s a wonderful way to support our troops and to honor our veterans.  Give us a call and we’ll help you select just the right suite for you.
